Zircon HMI Displayed At Connected Vehicle Conference

Last week our MD, David Owen, attended the connected vehicle conference in Newcastle. During the course of the event Newcastle City Council displayed a video, as can be seen below, of the Gosforth Corridor trial of their Cooperative Intelligent Transport System (C-ITS) demonstrating the HMI that Zircon helped to develop.

Following the conclusion of the EU funded Compass4D project Newcastle City Council received a grant from the Department for Transport (DfT) to extend the Cooperative Intelligent Transport System (C-ITS) onto the section of the B1318 Great North Road referred to as the Gosforth Corridor.

As part of this project, signalised controls have been equipped with Road Side Units (RSUs) to enable information to be communicated with equipped vehicles. We have been working with Newcastle City Council on the following elements:

  • Liaising with the suppliers of the On-Board and Roadside Units, as well as the bus drivers to understand how information should be presented to them.
  • The development of the bus driver Human Machine Interface (HMI) so that it is capable of running on a standard Android mobile device.
  • The development of the software to integrate the OBU with the HMI

If you would like to know more about our work in this area, or are looking to implement a similar system we would be more than happy to share our experiences with you.
